Privacy Policy
Last updated: 7 July 2026
Who we are
CoWrite (cowrite.co) is operated by Ortomate Ltd., 12 Jessie Street, Wellington, New Zealand ("we", "us"). We comply with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and its Information Privacy Principles. For anything in this policy, contact us at hello@cowrite.co.
What we collect
- Account information — your name, email address and avatar when you sign in with Google or a magic link.
- Your writing material — book projects, conversations with the AI, captured memories, and generated outlines.
- Billing information — handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card details; we store only your Stripe customer reference and subscription status.
- Usage records — counts of AI messages and token usage, used to enforce plan limits and monitor costs.
How we use it
- To provide the service: storing your projects and powering AI conversations.
- To generate AI responses, relevant excerpts of your conversations and memories are sent to Anthropic (our AI provider) to produce the reply. Anthropic processes this data to provide the service; we do not permit it to be used to train models.
- To bill you via Stripe and enforce plan limits.
- To respond to support requests.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your writing to train AI models.
Storage and security
Your data is stored with Supabase (managed PostgreSQL) with row-level security so only your account can access your material. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Payment processing is performed by Stripe, a PCI-DSS Level 1 provider.
Retention and deletion
We keep your data while your account is active. Delete a project and its conversations, memories and outlines are removed. To delete your entire account and all associated data, email hello@cowrite.co and we will action it within 10 working days.
Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you may request access to, or correction of, the personal information we hold about you. You may also complain to the Office of the New Zealand Privacy Commissioner (privacy.org.nz) if you believe we have mishandled your information.
Cookies
We use only the cookies required to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Changes
We'll post any changes to this policy on this page and update the date above. Material changes will be notified by email.
